Samsung Galaxy X Launching MWC 2017 Will Change EVERYTHING: Flexible Smartphones Are COMING

Samsung will launch as many as FIVE new Galaxy flagships in 2017 under its upcoming Galaxy X line
We're not going to deny it, here at KYM we are seriously excited about 2017. Why? Well next year appears to be gearing up to be one of the most dynamic periods the industry has seen in a long while. In short, BIG changes are afoot. Most importantly, Samsung is preparing to launch the first smartphone with a truly fully folding and flexible OLED display (we're calling it FFOLED for now). True enough we have seen flexible OLED before with the LG G Flex series and its ability to flex slightly, as well as Samsung's Galaxy EDGE curved displays; where a flexible panel is fixed in place under curved glass. But 2017 will be different, the Samsung Galaxy X, as rumoured, will have a touchscreen that geuinely folds along the middle without creasing, cracking, distorting the image or any other negative results. The rumours coming out of Asia are serisouly robust, "Project Valley" as it's known internally, is poised to emerge as the Samsung Galaxy X some time inside 2017, though no-one seems to know exactly when. The Galaxy X will reportedly feature a clamshell, flip-phone like design to allow it to fold up into a compact, pocket-friendly package without compromising the full-size, high-resolution Super AMOLED touch display.

This handset, it's alleged, will be one of FIVE flagship smartphones Samsung plans to launch inside 2017. Things are looking as if they’re going to change very rapidly. There hasn’t been much of a change to form-factors, save for the increase in display size, since, well, around 2007 when the first iPhone and Android phones landed.

After a decade of rectangular blocks we could well be on the cusp of something truly different -- something that will change everything once again. Only this time it appears to be Samsung, not Apple, driving this change, should the company hit markets with a functional and efficient flexible phone.

Like it’s done with phablets and display technology, Samsung is keen to be the driving force behind the next big shift in what we think of as mobile phones. These flexible handsets have the potential to completely reset the age-old, rectangular form-factor once and for all. And if they’re done correctly, well, this will create a HUGE surge in demand for phones of this type. This is the benefit of being first out the blocks with new types of technology; if its successful you get to define a whole new era, just as Apple did with the iPad and Samsung did with the phablet.
