I wasn't planning on upgrading to Pascal, but after seeing the benchmarks, I had to get one. I originally ordered a MSI GT72VR from Amazon, but upon learning that it was an Optimus system, I had them intercept the package and return it before it could be delivered.
That was the sign that I should have stuck with Clevo/Sager. After sorting through all the Pascal-equipped options, I settled on the P775DM3-G/NP9172, as it looked to offer the best balance of performance per dollar. I had ordered a Crown notebook from Powernotebooks.com back in 2006, and @Donald@HIDevolution was my consultant then. He also assisted with a custom order for my dad in 2008 - a notebook he still uses every day. Here's the real kicker - Donald actually remembered those transactions, which absolutely floored me.
Based on my past and current great experiences with Donald, the other positive reviews from users on this forum, and the fact that they're providing @Prema with a system to create custom BIOS mods, I chose to give my business to HIDevolution. Key specs as ordered are:
Core i7 6700K | 16 GB RAM | GTX 1080 | 128 GB M.2 SSD | Killer wireless | 1080p G-Sync display | 2-year parts warranty
Cost: $2,716. It's a bit more than I was planning on spending, but HIDevolution's flexible payment options (I'm doing 0% financing for 6 months) allowed me to stretch the budget.
I'll be swapping the 128 GB SSD in the P775 with the Samsung SM951 and PNY CS1311 in my current P770ZM.
The timeline is as follows:
08/18/2016: Order placed
08/19/2016: Order processing
08/22/2016: Order sent to pre-production
And thus, the waiting game begins.
