Gaming on a 3440x1440p with a 980m

I have a question about a 3440x1440p ultra wide monitor, I want this monitor for productivity but I do also play some games(rainbow six siege, overwatch) . My 980m card can't handle ultra settings on that resolution for what I have read... But I have heard that it will be okey for the 2560x1080p resolution... So, will I get a nice image if I don't play at native resolution? It will treat the game as a 2560x1080p resolution? No stretch or something? I have the same question if I play in a 16:9 .
