My Asus K555L hinge is broken after 23 days . Since I bought it (October 16, 2015), I hear this soft cracking sound whenever I open it. Never brought it to school because I was busy doing my thesis at home, so the laptop is at the same place since and I never Dropped it. following day that the hinge officially cracked I took it back to the store where I bought it and the tech that assisted me said that it would be 14 to 30 days before it will be shipped to the authorized service center.
So I decided to bring it directly to the service center myself which is really far from where I live (traffic is awful here BTW). the tech that first assisted me said that it will take days to know if the warranty will cover this because they will take pictures and send it to the main office then after that it will take 2-3 weeks for repair then I was moved to the woman that I think is in charge for filing and said that the warranty will most likely be voided because it is Physical Damage and that maybe I used excessive force to it and that it will be a waste of time to file for consideration for the warranty.
I have used and owned different brands of laptops (dell, hp, acer) and it was the first time that I encountered a physical problem and I know how to use a laptop with care because i have important files in them, aside from my external back up drives. and I cant close it or open it even more because it is stuck to where the hinge is broken so there is no way that I have used excessive force to it (i even made something to secure it so that it would not move an inch when i delivered it to them). I only bought a new one because my old laptop is an i3 and some softwares cant run smoothly and faster because its on the average specs. I really need a faster one because on the first week of December is my final thesis defense so I cant WASTE time right now. so I decided to accept the void and pay for the repairs but i pulled it out from them and use it while i will be notified to the progress like parts being delivered to them I don't know if it is the wrong move or not, like risks of further damage.
I think its manufacturing fault and that it should be covered under warranty is it not?
*UPDATE* Hinge broken AGAIN after 5 days
I went back to their office after the School term on December 12, 2015. With no warranty I paid for the back cover and two bezels and labor BECAUSE of "physical damage". It was returned to me repaired on February 13 2016. and TODAY December 17 2016 I'm in the same situation. AGAIN the hinge is broken! although there is no obvious separation of parts like the last time (I'm scared to close it because it might get worse). there is only a SMALL GAP between the hinge and the body, just like the first time I encountered the problem on October 16 2015. because in the first place It only worsen when the tech guy inspected my laptop, looking through the gap opening and closing without being able to put it back again and they charged me for that. I called them earlier they said that the parts have 90 days warranty and that I should bring it back to them tomorrow but I know how long the process will take. and I need the laptop for school. Again! same situation, I will wait for the school term to end (its within 90 days so the warranty will still cover it). I think the time wasted + the hassle + the gas money + the EFFORT is worth more than the price of the laptop itself. I was thinking of using it as a desktop computer ha...ha..
