I'm a software developer, so that's what I will be primarily be doing on this machine.

I want a laptop so I can "code-on-the-go" and not be tethered to my desk all the time.

Maybe, but not very often.

9) How many hours of battery life do you need?

After using a laptop with crap battery life (3 hours max), I've come to conclusion that I *really* need to have a long battery life so the more the merrier.

10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK?

Yes.

Screen Specifics

12) From the choices below, what screen resolution(s) would you prefer? Keep in mind screen size in conjunction with resolution will play a large role in overall viewing comfort level. FHD. Anything less and I don't get the vertical screen real estate I need to be able to code comfortably. QHD would probably be ok, but I've never tried it out personally.

I've found UHD to be totally useless for my needs. I usually have to scale things up to the point where I'm effectively seeing the same amount of text on the screen as I would with an FHD display, except I don't get the power savings that an FHD display would give me compared to the UHD display.

Build Quality and Design

14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?

Would be nice, but not that important.

15) When are you buying this laptop?

Notebook Components

SSD all the way. 1TB minimum.

No.

The best laptop I've found so far that would seem to suit my needs is a Dell XPS 15 with FHD display and 6 cell battery. This configuration only comes with 16GB of memory and 512GB of SSD on Dell's website, so I'll be upgrading those components myself.

Can anybody offer any alternatives?
