Repasting gpu

Hi, I'm repasting my clevo p170sm-a gpu and when the heatsink came off there was this band of what looks like thermal compound on the heatsink in the margins that didn't come off with the rest and looks surprisingly neat. It looks like it migtht cover the black margins. I was wondering if I should take it off with the rest of the compound when I repaste.




Also what in your opinion is the best method to repaste the gpu and the cpu...
